We are

Rollyn grew up on a commercial dairy farm with his family in Tremont, Illinois.  He had an interest in bees along with an addiction to honey, but always was under the impression that he didn’t have the time to study and manage bees or harvest honey at the appropriate times, even as a hobby.  Upon stumbling on some videos, he learned that keeping bees and harvesting honey was indeed possible through technology and the accessibility of video learning.

The first bees came to the hillside in May of 2020.  Two hives turned into four and so on.  Today Aberlend is home to six hives.  Rollyn, Suzanne, and their four children are all involved in some aspect, from management of the colonies to harvest, bottling, and sales through the website and farmer’s markets.

Rollyn also manages the hives at Wildlife Prairie Park for the Heart of Illinois Beekeepers Association.
